Campaign 3 DoR

Uboa Tauyisioun is a young, Khamdan artificer in the campaign Dawn of Reclaimation, played by Cass. They are normal about them (citation needed)

Originally living in the northern capitol of Khamda after dying and being revived by a magic engine, Uboa was led to discover the rest of the party while she was in search of her mother, who left a mysterious note. She decided to stay with the two when she discovered they shared a common destination.

Considered a prodigy, she has proven herself to be the brains and handyman of the party, creating enchanted items and serving as reference for many arcane phenomena. Despite being their brain, her young age and naivete sometimes makes her turn a blind eye where her talents would be useful.

Appearance

Uboa is 5'81. They have dark brown skin and a relatively square build. Their horns are notably short compared to her mother and other tieflings, and are black, matching their nails. Their eyes are almost solid gold save for a faint iris. Their hair is usually twisted, and is black fading to brown and then blonde, owing its bleached appearance to magic fume exposure1. Naturally, it is about 3C. Their tail is arrow shaped and darkens to their nail color near its tip. Their arms are dotted with various small cuts and burns from artificer mishaps, along with old, slight acne scarring on their face.

They prefer to dress neutrally and to their profession, wearing a hooded chain shirt under overalls with thick fingerless gloves and boots. They wear a thick belt with a chain. They wear an oversized short-sleeve coat over most of the time. Uboa has various accessories, such as a necklace made from the same crystal as their rifle, a small gold bracelet, and a small pin on the left lapel of their jacket.

They wear green-tinted goggles over their head that they put on when firing the cannon at close range.

Engine

The engine, otherwise called the heart, is Uboa's furnace-like replacement for a heart in their chest. It is shaped like a small box and can be opened with a hatch. It is copper colored and is surrounded by slight scarring from its original insertion.

It is bright inside and radiates heat and magic. Clockwork gears and wires are what support Uboa's life, as the engine is a powerful enchanted object.

When the engine overheats after a period of intense stress (determined by a constitution saving throw) Smoke will billow out of the engine and out of Uboa's mouth and nostrils. When it cools, it slowly dissolves into steam.

Personality

"Do you ever think about what that even means?"

-upon learning that death is a being

Uboa is young, energetic, rational and naive. She is usually the first to try and understand how something works and treat people with pragmatic respect. Her relatively average upbringing has given her a very grounded approach to people. Her tendency to assume the best and take things at face value have both aided her and caused devestating consequences in her life.

Uboa is the most urban of the party and is the most familiar with casual interactions, poking fun and making jokes. She usually refers to people informally unless the situation calls for otherwise, where she often feels out of place. She sometimes slips back into her city accent when around family.

Uboa is famously unaware of advancements and has trouble finding the hidden meaning behind sarcasm or double meanings. She tends to take things as they are and dislikes when people don't speak clearly to her.

She tends to assume people are mostly good and will try and rationalize people's behavior, being unacaquainted with anyone who has ever wished true harm before her adventures. She tries to hold no serious ill will beyond petty grudges. Even when she outwardly seemed to hate her recently absent mother Miran, it quickly dissolved into awkward disappointment after a heated argument with her.

She is prone to rambling and has trouble getting across what she really means, making her sometimes sound nonsensical and winding. Because of this communicative trouble, she usually shows affection by making things for people or buying gifts. She will spend hours working on something for someone with little objection.

She enjoys showing off by finding roundabout solutions to otherwise simple problems or those that would be solved by having patience. Examples of this incldue using Heat Metal to grill on a sword, making a coffee pot with a cold setting when she already has the ability to make something cold with touch, or calculating if she and Ire would be able to scale a mile-long cliff using magic instead of sailing around it. She sometimes exaggerates the scope of her accomplishments for attention.

Despite being calculated, her youth sometimes leads her to make reckless decisions she is confident she can perform. They believe if the numbers support it, it can happen, even if the success rate is lower than she'd like. She clings to hope such as this often.

Recent Developments

Uboa has grown more suspicious of the supposed prosperity of the new settlement her mother has moved to, Askaad. Its complete dissonance with the life she was raised with makes her wonder the true intentions of the locale, and if gods really do live there.

As of her second death, Uboa has grown slightly more weary. She insists that the blame of her death, despite being caused by Maylynn, is not anyone's fault. She has begun to assume more ill intentions of people, which she regrets.

She knows that death is a natural part of life, but sometimes feels guilty that she wants a chance to live her life to its fullest while other people may never get the chance to. When reflecting on her state, she has guiltily called herself "heartless" in reference to her engine.

Combat

Uboa a ranged attacker who casts spells through their dual rifle-arcane-focus. They are also the party's main support, able to cast cure wounds and utilize a healing turret.

Uboa's chosen weapon is Furnace, a rifle they found the parts to and assembled themself. Despite the parts being well placed, they take pride in saying it was their completely original idea. The cannon, a small gecko construct, sits on top of its sights.

Their main strategy is to stay far and stand their ground until needing to move, using shields whenever they are in the thick of melee combat. Uboa has famously low health and does not linger in melee for long.

History [WIP]

Pre-Campaign

Uboa was born about three years into the third era, in the boom of prosperity after the war spanning most of the second era. She was born in Khamda, but moved to Kef Aisling, then back.

Soon after her birth, it was apparent that she had an unknown condition similar to an autoimmune disease. Despite this, she pushed to live happily, and attended school. She was one of the top of her class and enjoyed reading, but not so much doing work. She could never keep still and always had to have her hands occupied.

Makure, her younger brother, was born when she was about five years old. The two would get into petty fights often. Uboa began learning artifice from both of her mothers at this time, and proved to excel at the art. She frequently tortured Makure in ways only older siblings could.

The birth of Makure led the relatively happy marriage of Miran and Naomh to become shaky. Despite this, the two still continued to try and be on good terms, even if Miran continued to isolate herself in searching for potential artifice solutions for Uboa. Around this time, Uboa also ate a "weird fruit from a tree she found" for "scientific discovieries" and promptly threw up by the pavement of her school1 And complained that her horns would never grow as long as her mother's.

In her teenage years, she was often a little tresspasser and would sneak out often to do things that were "pretty nerdy anyway," such as finding her mother's workshop or leaving to a bookstore. She also gave her brother raw coffee grounds around this time.2

Her parents divorced, yet stayed on good terms.

Death and Creation of the Engine

As she grew older, her illness progressed along with it. Uboa did not leave the house very often. Her mothers would frequently buy her books, trinkets, or other things related to her interests that she was not able to see for herself.

She still stayed as active as she possibly could, and did not want people to feel sorry for her. She took up many projects as her health ailed, making significant progress in her artifice.

Miran began to obsessively search for a potential means of revival for her daughter. Naomh, who began to see her less and less, had a large argument with her that resulted in them breaking off their terms and mostly going their seperate ways. Uboa stayed with Naomh, while Miran left back to Khamda.

Eventually the illness became too much to bear and Miran approached the family with a new way to keep Uboa alive. Uboa died shortly after, and before Miran could implement it, called on a favor. She contacted the walking god Bane to go into the depths where Death, an entity who hoarded souls, resided, to retrieve her daughter's soul. In return, Miran would be in his service. Before then, Miran had enchanted several of his weapons, being an artificer of high talent and renown.

When describing those final weeks, Uboa simply stated that she was constantly tired. When the time came, she was just too tired to get herself back up again.

The Note

After her revival, the adjustment period for Uboa faced was shaky. She did not experience a large disconnect in time, being revived less than a day after her death. Going back to walking and physical activity took months. Despite never being able to truly be "healthy" in the traditional sense, she was glad to be able to experience parts of her life that she missed dearly.

After her duty was completed, Miran had to hold the terms of her agreement and left to the secretive settlement known as Askaad. Uboa, unknowing of the circumstances, grew angry at her disappearance.

When Miran left a note to visit her at Kef Aisling, Uboa left her home in search of her.

Dawn of Reclamation

Uboa arrived at her mother's home and picked the lock to its entrance. She quickly took some things from her, including a ring, and found a note with a hidden message to go further south. It was later revealed that Miran had anticipated her coming and left a Ring of Protection to keep her safe.

She left to go see her mother's tavern friends. When there, she meets a ranger named Maylynn, who states that she can officially access the Khamda's capitol portal to go south due to her job. She also meets Ire, unnamed at that point, who bluntly announces she needs a job and needs to go south. Maylnn agrees to escort the two, on the terms that she "takes care of some business" left extremely vague.

While traveling back to Khamda, the three fight an acid-spitting worm and other enemies. Uboa latches herself onto Ire due to their similar ages, and despite the latter's blunt nature and coldness, nevertheless makes an effort to talk to her. She also just thought of Maylynn as weird, finding her unnatural need of rest strange.

To distract herself from the dissonance of having killed someone for the first time, she works on Furnace, her rifle, after scavenging its parts from a destroyed caravan.

When reaching the capitol and needing a place to stay, Uboa introduces the party to her family. When informed by Naomh that Makure went missing, Uboa messages him. He explains he got jumped after trying to make some quick money, despite being only 14. After giving his location and Ire smelling him out from his strong perfume, the party rescues him. Due to the stress, Uboa's engine billows for the first time, but she is able to control it. She does not explain why it occurs, and scolds Makure for trying to do something so stupid. As the two squabble, Uboa continues to be hypocritical and explain he shouldn't leave in the middle of the night.

After leaving to go see King Korvurr and access the portal, Uboa chats with the portal's engineers and suggests potential improvements in the city's transport. She marvels at its construction.

Similarly, when reaching the south, she is left in awe at the city's lightning and artifice, and is delighted to get a carbonated drink from a local Pacara branch.

The Sea Journey

On the long journey to reach Silverfair, Uboa repeatedly made small magical objects from how bored she was. She called her family often.
